Life is Nifty after Fifty…

I can remember turning 29.  No birthday before or after has affected me the way that one did. I was a mess.  Our son was turning one and I thought maybe life had passed me by.  Oh I didn’t think that my life was over. I’m not that much of a drama queen. But I did think that maybe  I hadn’t really experienced life the way a young person should. I had always been the responsible one, the oldest of four.  My parents depended on me to watch over my younger sisters. Then as soon as I was old enough…15, I got a job and I have been working ever since.

Much to my surprise life became interesting at 30. Married with children was an adventure. Some adventures were fun and exciting and some were more like trying to push a bolder uphill.  I embarked on a what would become a very successful career.  I began to discover who I was going to become when I finally grew up.

At 40, I found a new passion for serving others through ministry work. I served as a volunteer organizer and special events coordinator.  I thought I would work in ministry until I retired.  Many of my responsibilities helped prepare me for the next chapter in my life, becoming a small business owner.

Now at 50, my life puzzle is finally coming together.  I have realized a life long dream of being my own boss. I own a small vintage retail shop called Junque Rescuers in Freeport Texas.  In the near future another life long dream of owning a Bed and Breakfast will become reality.

But the best part of being Fifty is I no longer worry about the little things in life.  I wake up everyday happy and excited about what life has in store for me.  I am married to my best friend and he has a plan.  So I hope you will check in from time to time to see what we’re up to.  We’ll be cooking, entertaining, traveling, shopping for our junque store and running our B&B….

Just remember, Life is Nifty after Fifty!
